HCR ManorCare, a US network of more than 500 assisted living and skilled nursing locations, faced a heavily manual, paper‑based Accounts Payable process with over 21,000 mostly local suppliers and an on‑premise system that had reached capacity. The organization struggled with diverse medical invoice formats, high processing costs, duplicate and late payments, and internal resistance to moving to a cloud solution.

Working with Basware, HCR ManorCare migrated to Basware AP Automation and the Basware Network, centralized scanning, ran a supplier enablement campaign and rolled out e‑invoicing and P‑cards, plus user training. The rollout (designed in three months and completed in under six) increased e‑invoicing from ~20% to 72%, enabled same‑day invoice processing, cut AP headcount from 38 to 4, and eliminated about $2M in annual overpayments while improving on‑time payments and spend visibility.
