Toshiba Strengthens Internal Export Control System with Name Matching by Basis Technology

Toshiba needed a better way to screen customer and organization names against rapidly growing export-control watchlists. Manual visual checks were time-consuming and led to missed or mistaken matches because of typos, spelling variations, aliases, and multilingual name differences. Toshiba turned to Basis Technology and its Rosette text analytics platform to strengthen its internal export control system.

Basis Technology implemented Rosette’s name indexing and matching capabilities to improve watchlist verification across web-based, file-based, and daily-update screening workflows. The solution uses phonetics, machine learning, and name-handling algorithms to find likely matches and assign similarity scores, including across Japanese, Chinese, and Korean scripts. As a result, Toshiba reduced omissions from manual checking and significantly improved the efficiency and accuracy of matching and verification work.
