Text Mining for Chinese Social Media

Plus Alpha Consulting, a Tokyo-based SaaS provider focused on marketing visualization and text mining, needed a way to analyze customer feedback from Chinese social media and other Chinese-language sources for Japanese companies expanding into China. To support its “Mieruka Engine” service, the company required accurate Chinese text tokenization, part-of-speech analysis for keyword extraction, and support for both simplified and traditional Chinese.

Basis Technology provided the Chinese module of Rosette Base Linguistics, which Plus Alpha Consulting integrated into “Mieruka Engine” to pre-process Chinese text and analyze customer feedback across the Chinese-speaking world. The solution enabled faster, more accurate analysis of open-ended survey responses, call center feedback, and social media content, and “Mieruka Engine” began supporting Chinese in May 2011 as the “Mieruka Engine Global Option,” helping customers better understand the Chinese market and grow sales.
