Shining A Light On Consumer Feedback

Luminoso, a text analytics company spun out of the MIT Media Lab, needed highly accurate multilingual linguistic analysis to turn large volumes of customer feedback into actionable insights. As it expanded into new languages, its open-source tools were not accurate enough for tasks like lemmatization, part-of-speech tagging, and recognizing lexicalized phrases across customer reviews, surveys, and service interactions.

Basis Technology provided Rosette, its multilingual text analytics API/SDK, to improve Luminoso’s language processing across more than 40 languages. The solution delivered 97–98% matches against tagged corpora in testing, improved accuracy over prior tools, and helped Luminoso uncover meaningful product insights—such as color being a significant factor in consumer perception—while supporting faster entry into new markets and broader global growth.
