Case Study: University of Bristol achieves major thermal performance improvements with BASF WALLTITE insulation

Science Block physically enhanced with WALLTITE®

BASF worked with Bristol University on the refurbishment of the HH Wills Physics Building in Bristol. The university needed to improve the building’s thermal performance without altering the external façade, and the 1960s structure had an uninsulated 100mm cavity wall section that was thermally inefficient. BASF’s WALLTITE CV 100 injection grade foam insulation was selected for the project.

BASF injected WALLTITE CV 100 into the spandrel cavity below the windows, sealing the wall and improving both insulation and air-tightness. The installation reduced the U-value from 1.45W/m2K to 0.23W/m2K, while also adding structural stability to the older wall construction. The refurbished building now benefits from better thermal performance and a more rigid structure.
