Ruter, the public transport authority for Oslo and Akershus, needed a reliable way to monitor its Core Mobility Platform, which supports many consumers and must stay available at all times. Working with Basefarm, Ruter faced the challenge of managing a distributed, open-source-based architecture across AWS infrastructure while keeping visibility into critical services like Cassandra, MQ, and databases.

Basefarm implemented Datadog as the primary monitoring platform, with Terraform-based infrastructure as code, tagging for automatic service association, and integrations with Slack, PagerDuty, and ITSM systems. The solution added anomaly detection, outlier monitoring, and predictive forecasting for capacity planning, helping Basefarm and Ruter improve incident response, detect performance issues earlier, and better anticipate scaling needs, while also supporting 24/7 security alert handling through AWS Security Hub and Basefarm’s Operations Center.
