A Basefarm Case Study
Deutsche Bahn (DB) needed a way to improve passenger information across Germany, where different data sources and channels often showed inconsistent departure and delay information. Basefarm, together with its affiliate The unbelievable Machine Company, supported DB Passenger Information in building a cloud-based big data platform on AWS to create a “Single Point of Truth” for all customer-facing rail information.
Basefarm implemented a central data platform using microservices, machine learning, and an automated CI/CD pipeline to consolidate complex train and timetable data and distribute it consistently to apps, station displays, kiosk systems, and other channels. The solution now processes around 60 million tracking incidents per day, runs 24/7, and has already improved the reliability and speed of track change detection, with system interruptions virtually eliminated.
