Bosma empowers visually impaired workers with BarTender® label automation

Bosma Enterprises, a Midwest nonprofit that trains and employs people who are blind or visually impaired and supplies disposable surgical devices to VA hospitals, faced labeling challenges because manual label processes required fully sighted visual checks for lot tracking, expiration dates and repackaging. These manual workflows caused inaccuracies, risked shipping errors, and limited autonomy for visually impaired workers. To address this, Bosma worked with EMP Technical Group to implement BarTender label automation.

EMP Technical Group integrated Bosma’s Excel product database with BarTender so dynamic data populates label templates and enables on‑demand printing, eliminating manual data entry and double‑checking. Using BarTender’s automated templates and printing, Bosma improved label accuracy, ensured precise accounting of printed labels, reduced turnaround time, and enabled visually impaired employees to perform labeling tasks independently.
