Case Study: MRWA improves waste data accuracy and reporting with Barrachd

A Barrachd Case Study

Preview of the MRWA Case Study

How MRWA Found Value in Waste Data

MRWA, Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority, needed a better way to manage highly complex waste data, reporting, and invoicing across multiple contractors and facilities. Its spreadsheet-based processes led to inconsistent answers, manual effort, delays, and the risk of costly errors affecting tonnage rates, recycling rates, and contract payments. Barrachd helped address this challenge with IBM Cognos Express, using the TM1 cube engine for fast analysis and reporting.

Barrachd implemented a centralized solution that brought MRWA’s waste, contract, and operational data into one consistent system with Excel-based analysis and web-based data entry for external parties. The new setup gave MRWA instant dashboard visibility, improved forecasting, reduced manual data entry, and more than halved the time needed to validate contract payments and update spreadsheets, while also enabling the authority to run a highly complex £1.2bn contract more reliably.
