Edinburgh’s Telford College boosts Attendance Monitoring

Edinburgh’s Telford College worked with Barrachd to improve attendance monitoring and use that data to support learner retention. The college needed a better way to track attendance for administrative needs such as bursary allocation, while also identifying students at risk of dropping out. Barrachd, an IBM Business Partner, helped the college build the solution using IBM Cognos Business Intelligence.

Barrachd implemented a system that pulls attendance data from class registers and integrates it with the college’s student records system, then presents it through dashboards, personal timetables, and automated alerts. The solution has increased register completion rates, improved attendance across the college, and simplified reporting for external bodies such as the UK Borders Agency and government bursary reporting. It also provides a foundation for predictive analytics to help staff intervene earlier with at-risk learners.
