A Barco Case Study
The University of Applied Sciences Kempten's Institute for Driver Assistance and Connected Mobility needed to upgrade its driving simulator to create a more realistic and immersive testing environment for automotive development. Their existing system's screen was too small, breaking the illusion for test drivers, and they required a solution that could support a larger display with a significantly higher frame rate to improve the experience. They chose to implement a new visualization system featuring a 240 Hz Barco FL40-4K projector.
The high 240 Hz frame rate of the Barco projector provided a true-to-life response, which was crucial for high-dynamic driving tests and significantly reduced motion sickness and stress for drivers during long sessions. This upgrade, along with the projector's simple handling and realistic image reproduction, increased the realism of the simulator, which in turn fostered greater trust from test drivers. By using the Barco-powered simulator to conduct up to 80% of initial development work virtually, the university helps car manufacturers save a substantial amount of time and money on prototype development costs.
