Barco technology takes operating rooms to the next level

Al-Hada Military Hospital, a major military hospital in Saudi Arabia, sought to modernize its surgical care by transforming eleven of its operating rooms into digital ORs. Their challenge was to implement a flexible solution that would allow surgeons to seamlessly view, use, and switch high-resolution video feeds on any display without disruption. To address this, they worked with vendor Barco through their partner, Gulf Medical Co. Ltd.

The solution implemented Barco's Nexxis video-over-IP technology, which was integrated with the Karl Storz OR1 Fusion system in eight operating rooms. This setup included Barco surgical displays with built-in decoders. The result is a fully integrated digital environment where surgeons can share uncompressed, high-resolution images with near-zero latency, communicate between ORs and auditoriums for training and second opinions, and ultimately work more efficiently to ensure the best patient outcomes.
