Asset Tracking System Helps Alberta Medical Association Increase Efficiency and Take Advantage of Barcodes

The Alberta Medical Association, a provincial organization representing physicians in Alberta, needed to automate and streamline IT asset tracking and reduce human error. Network-discovery tools proved insufficient—networks can be unreliable and many assets (monitors, printers, copiers, furniture) are not networked—so the association sought a solution that could reliably track both IT and non‑IT items.

They implemented ASAP Systems’ Passport, a desktop application paired with mobile barcode scanners that read existing barcoded tags and equipment serial numbers. The system standardized descriptions and categories, reduced data-entry errors and time spent correcting them, provided daily, easy-to-run reports and exports, and improved overall efficiency while remaining flexible enough to track any asset type.
