A BarCloud by ASAP Systems Case Study
Arlington County Fire Department’s Logistics Branch manages inventory and assets for 10 fire stations and 320 employees. When warehouse coordinator Lamar Smith took over, tracking was done manually with pen, paper and Excel, making it difficult to monitor consumables versus maintained assets, track expirations and repairs, and generate station- or employee-level spending reports.
They implemented ASAP Systems with barcode labels and Motorola scanners, customizing fields, stock codes and sites so stations, employees and apparatus could be tracked individually, and using embedded tutorials to onboard firefighters. The solution automated counts, reduced man-hours and errors, enabled on-demand custom reporting and alerts (which exposed excessive dryer costs and led to a preventative-maintenance program that saved thousands), and positioned the department to add vendor/PO workflows and expanded asset tracking.
