A BanQu Case Study

JTI uses BanQu to protect children and source responsibly

Japan Tobacco International (JTI) faced the challenge of identifying and preventing child labor within its tobacco supply chain, a problem exacerbated by farmer debt. They needed a simple way to collect data, track performance transparently, and provide meaningful alternatives to child labor for at-risk families. To address this, JTI partnered with the vendor BanQu and integrated its non-crypto blockchain technology into their existing ARISE initiative.

The solution from BanQu simplified communication among subcontractors and created a transparent system for tracking sustainability metrics. This implementation helped JTI support 25,000 at-risk small-holder farmer families and remove over 65,000 children from the fields, placing them into educational programs instead. The BanQu platform brought critical transparency and accountability to the supply chain across four countries.
