Case Study: DOW achieves traceable, more sustainable recycling with BanQu

Dow and BanQu Turn Waste into Profit

Dow, a leading materials science company, faced the challenge of gaining visibility into the informal waste sector in Colombia to ensure the quality and supply of post-consumer recycled (PCR) resin for its REVOLOOP™ product. They needed to trace materials back to their origin, integrate waste pickers into the value chain, and formalize paper-based cooperative operations, all while protecting data privacy. To address this, they partnered with the traceability platform vendor BanQu.

The solution implemented by BanQu was a blockchain-based system for the "2Life" project, which digitized operations for cooperatives and connected hundreds of waste pickers. This provided Dow with 360-degree visibility into the material flow and real-time data for forecasting. The results included tracking over 1 million kilograms of PET materials, formally registering 794 waste pickers, and strengthening Colombia's entire recycling ecosystem through a transparent and equitable value chain.
