Dartmouth transforms its candidate evaluation process with Balloon

Dartmouth College’s Hill Winds Society, a student leadership group that selects first-year ambassadors, needed a better way to evaluate candidates. Their traditional in-person, four-hour deliberation process was increasingly affected by social dynamics, bias, and the influence of who knew whom, making it difficult to keep discussions objective and focused on the qualities they wanted in candidates.

To address this, Dartmouth College used Balloon’s Insight Mobility platform to gather anonymous feedback and support more balanced, collaborative candidate reviews. With Balloon, evaluators could share candid comments without fear of judgment, surface stronger ideas, and make decisions more efficiently—cutting deliberation time by 70%, from about four hours to just 1 hour and 15 minutes.
