Balloon helps introverts step into the spotlight at PayScale

PayScale, a Seattle-based software company, wanted to make its quarterly HackDay more engaging and inclusive for both its 8-person IT team and its larger engineering department. Director of IT John Lynch looked for a way to help employees, especially quieter ones, contribute ideas more confidently and bring more structure to pre-HackDay planning.

Using Balloon, PayScale ran pre-HackDay flight templates for “IT Lean Coffee and Planning” and a broader “HackDay Brainstorm” to collect ideas asynchronously before the event. Balloon helped surface more creative input, increased participation from introverts, and led to stronger idea voting and leadership opportunities for quieter team members; Lynch said the team would likely use Balloon more often for ongoing remote collaboration.
