Controlling Third-Party Administrators With Shell Control Box

Telenor, an international telecom provider with critical high-security network zones, needed a way to control and audit both internal and third-party administrators’ encrypted SSH sessions. Before working with BalaBit, the company had no solution for tracing or monitoring this activity, making privileged access control and third-party auditing difficult.

BalaBit implemented Shell Control Box (SCB) as an SSH session control gateway for Telenor’s Solaris environment. The rollout took about three months, including an eight-week testing phase, and the final setup used two geo-redundant SCBs for 6 servers and 15–20 third-party admins plus another SCB for 8–9 servers and 40–50 system admins, giving Telenor the audit transparency it needed for otherwise inaccessible administrative protocols.
