Ankara University, a large public university in Turkey, needed to prevent data loss and monitor remote administration on externally managed servers. After a prior incident involving lost data, the university turned to BalaBit and its Shell Control Box (SCB) to track user actions on servers accessed by outside service providers.

BalaBit implemented a SCB virtual appliance to monitor RDP and SSH sessions for five externally supported servers, adding credential store and 4-eyes authorization for stronger access control. The solution was deployed in one day and has run without failures since January 2012, helping reduce the risk of further data loss by making external administrators more cautious and creating both a technical and psychological barrier to misuse.
