A Baffle Case Study
Saxo Bank, a global brokerage and technology provider, needed to modernize its legacy data architecture to a scalable, event-driven cloud data mesh to support its business growth. The challenge was to enable this transformation while ensuring a strict "privacy by design" approach, which required consistently de-identifying sensitive customer data from numerous internal domains and legal entities without disrupting existing applications. They selected Baffle to provide a centralized encryption service to meet this need.
The solution implemented was Baffle's Data Protection Service, which acted as a central platform using Format Preserving Encryption (FPE) and REST APIs. This allowed each of Saxo Bank's nearly forty internal entities to use their own encryption keys for data segregation, enabling secure data streaming via Kafka to the cloud with no application disruption. Baffle empowered Saxo Bank to successfully build its new data mesh, providing for the first time a simplified, centralized way to manage multiple encryption keys and de-identify sensitive data securely.
