Digital Badging Program Works to Connect Students With STEM Pursuits

Pacific Science Center partnered with **Badgr** to support Discovery Corps, a STEM-focused program aimed at helping high school students recognize and communicate the value of informal, competency-based learning. The challenge was that students struggled to connect badges and project-based experiences to future education and career opportunities, especially in a way colleges and employers could easily understand.

**Badgr** provided the open badging platform and learning pathways technology to issue verifiable digital badges, organize them into student portfolios, and track progress through the program. The solution helped replace a paper-based process, gave students easier access to their status and next steps, and allowed them to share badges in digital portfolios and on LinkedIn. The case study reports that the program has shown strong potential and continues to be refined through ongoing interviews, surveys, and analytics, with results suggesting that the badge system can better support STEM identity and longer-term STEM pursuits.
