21st Century Skills Create a Bridge From Education to the Workforce

New World of Work, a workforce development program within the California Community Colleges system, needed a better way to bridge education and employment by helping learners build and prove the 21st century skills employers increasingly value. The challenge was to create a scalable, competency-based pathway that could connect online learning, classroom instruction, and workplace validation.

To solve this, New World of Work partnered with Badgr to launch a digital badging pathway built around its Top 10 21st Century Skills, with badges for learner, instructor-verified, and employer-verified achievement. Badgr helped make skills portable and easy to track across learning and hiring systems, and the program has scaled to 85 college partners with a goal of 115. Reported results include 97% of instructors saying the curriculum meets or exceeds expectations, 81% of students feeling more prepared for the workforce, and nearly 90% of employers being more likely to offer work-based learning to participants.
