The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) sought to verify a consultant's risk modeling report to protect its wastewater force mains and optimize its repair investments. To achieve this, WLSSD partnered with Badger Meter to implement the PIPEMINDER-ONE external pressure monitoring devices and the cloud-based RADAR Pressure Management Data Platform.

Badger Meter's solution provided the data needed to validate the model and identify specific issues, such as a stuck air release valve and transient events caused by power failures. This allowed WLSSD to confidently allocate capital improvements to the highest-risk areas, avoid unnecessary spending estimated between $185,000 and $1 million, and proactively reduce the risk of service interruptions for its customers.
