Columbia Water cuts monthly service calls by 96% with Badger Meter

Columbia Water, the utility for the city of Columbia, South Carolina, faced the challenge of modernizing its outdated, manual meter reading process. This labor-intensive system led to estimated bills and eroded customer confidence. To improve service and support smart city initiatives, the utility partnered with vendor Badger Meter for an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) upgrade.

Badger Meter implemented its BEACON® Software as a Service, ORION® Cellular endpoints, and Recordall® meters. This solution provided accurate, real-time data and access to the EyeOnWater® consumer app. As a result, Columbia Water saw a 96% reduction in monthly service calls and a 21% decrease in inactive accounts consuming water. The project enhanced operational efficiency, improved customer service and empowered residents with greater transparency.
