City of Galveston boosts water resilience with Badger Meter and over 15 pressure monitoring systems

The City of Galveston, Texas, a barrier island community, faced significant vulnerabilities in its water infrastructure, which were exposed during extreme weather events like Winter Storm Uri. The city's challenge was to ensure a reliable water supply for its fluctuating population and to prevent catastrophic water loss from pipe bursts. To address this, the city worked with vendor Badger Meter to implement a solution centered on its BlueEdge portfolio.

Badger Meter's solution involved deploying E-Series Ultrasonic Plus meters with remote valves and the BEACON Software as a Service platform. This provided real-time data for monitoring and control, allowing the utility to remotely shut off water to prevent loss and quickly address leaks. The implementation enhanced system resiliency, improved water conservation, increased billing accuracy, and empowered residents through the EyeOnWater app. As a result of this transformation, the City of Galveston's project was named a top 20 smart city project globally, earning a Smart 20 Award.
