University of St Andrews reduces tutor admin workload with Bad Dinosaur

The University of St Andrews's Centre for Academic, Professional and Organisational Development (CAPOD) faced a challenge in managing tutoring appointments, which were being handled through phone calls, emails, and spreadsheets. This inefficient process was occupying at least one staff member full-time. They approached Bad Dinosaur to create a simple tool, initially intrigued by the vendor's existing Tutlings product.

Bad Dinosaur developed a bespoke web application through a co-design process, building upon the Tutlings foundation to add the necessary administrator functionality and unique requirements. The solution was deployed on Bad Dinosaur's managed cloud hosting platform. The new system dramatically reduced the staff time required for logistics, saw a huge reduction in no-shows, and provided extensive reporting to identify student needs. Bad Dinosaur continues to work with the university to add new functionality.
