Case Study: Polfa Warszawa achieves reliable, low-cost, scalable enterprise backup and rapid tape recovery with Bacula Systems

A Bacula Systems Case Study

Preview of the Polfa Warszawa Case Study

Polfa Warszawa - Customer Case Study

Polfa Warszawa, one of Poland’s largest pharmaceutical companies, faced a fragmented, script‑based backup environment with many tape devices tied to individual servers, no network sharing, and strict regulatory requirements for off‑site tape archiving and recoverability. To modernize and meet compliance they evaluated several vendors and chose Bacula Systems — deploying Bacula Enterprise Edition via the Bacula Systems Subscription (with the VSS plug‑in) and working with partner Inteos for implementation.

Bacula Systems implemented Bacula Enterprise Edition across about 20 physical and virtual Windows, Linux and Solaris servers (covering MSSQL, Exchange and VMware ESX), integrating LTO‑5 tape libraries and automated backup tasks. The result was a fast, low‑cost deployment (including a mirrored datacenter at no additional charge), strong LTO‑5 backup and restore performance on modest hardware, reduced TCO, and the ability to handle 0.8–2 TB of daily backups and over 20 million files in the catalog (projected to reach 100 million within two years).
