Netlog, an online social portal with more than 63 million members, faced rapidly growing backup demands that outgrew its self-made scripts and increasingly complex, heterogeneous infrastructure. To obtain a scalable, flexible and non‑proprietary solution, Netlog chose Bacula Systems and adopted the Open Core Bacula Enterprise Edition with a support contract.

Bacula Systems implemented a spooled backup architecture protecting 30 TB across more than 500 critical Debian servers (primarily MySQL), writing to a Dell LT4000 LTO4 tape library with DAS spooling. With Bacula Enterprise Edition and vendor support they optimized the configuration—backups now run almost twice as fast, monitoring integration took an hour, and the solution scales to meet Netlog’s ongoing data growth.
