Locaweb, a leading web hosting and infrastructure provider in Brazil and Latin America, needed a stable, reliable open‑core backup solution for both Linux and Windows environments that could handle very large datasets and replace the expensive Backup Exec setup. After testing Bacula’s Community edition, Locaweb engaged Bacula Systems and chose Bacula Enterprise Edition to meet its high‑availability and performance requirements across the data center.

Bacula Systems deployed Bacula Enterprise Edition across servers (24 GB RAM, 16 processors, 4 NICs) and integrated PostgreSQL backups, Windows System State protection, CFEngine‑driven installation, monitoring and a custom admin interface; the environment now transfers about 375 TB of compressed data per week. The migration, completed over an 18‑month phased rollout, delivered a high‑end, reliable backup platform with responsive support from Bacula Systems and cut backup costs to roughly half of competing solutions, with future plans to add data deduplication to improve storage utilization.
