Case Study: Datacom achieves stable, quota-free backup and $50K ROI with Bacula Systems

A Bacula Systems Case Study

Preview of the Datacom Case Study

Datacom Exploits Versatility of Bacula Enterprise Edition

Datacom, a major South American telecommunications and network-equipment company, faced persistent backup limitations: prior use of Symantec NetBackup and Veeam imposed quotas that made full backups virtually impossible. After evaluating alternatives, Datacom chose Bacula Systems’ Bacula Enterprise Edition for its versatility, performance and lack of quota/agent restrictions.

Bacula Systems (with implementation support from Bacula do Brasil) deployed Bacula Enterprise Edition on a CentOS virtual server and two VMs managing Dell PowerVault LTO‑5 tape libraries to protect 60 Linux and 40 Windows clients plus Oracle 12c via RMAN. The solution delivered a faster deployment than prior systems, a stable, easy-to-administer backup and recovery environment (CLI or GUI), continuous operation, and an expected $50k return on investment over two years, with further gains anticipated after planned hardware refreshes.
