AUSL Romagna Relies on Bacula Backup and Data Recovery

AUSL Romagna, the public healthcare authority for the Rimini area managing four hospitals, 30 remote sites, over 4,000 employees and 2,000 PCs, faced slow, fragile backups with HP Data Protector that required daily full backups, extensive scripting and difficult restores. The organization needed a simpler, more reliable backup and monitoring solution and evaluated alternatives including IBM Tivoli before choosing Bacula Enterprise Edition from Bacula Systems (via partner SOASI).

Bacula Systems’ Bacula Enterprise Edition was deployed across 34 TB and 130 servers (mixed OS, databases and virtualized hosts), cutting deployment time from about six months to one month. The new solution enabled daily incremental/differential and delta backups with only a monthly full backup, reduced daily backup windows from roughly 12–13 hours to 3–4 hours, lowered tape and disk use, and freed a dedicated backup engineer’s time—while making monitoring and restores much simpler.
