Austin City Limits preserves 4,000 hours of archive content with Backblaze

Austin City Limits, the famed music television program produced by KLRU-TV (Austin PBS), faced the challenge of preserving over 40 years of deteriorating videotape archives containing irreplaceable musical performances. With a constrained budget, they needed to digitize and securely store more than 4,000 hours of content. They chose Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage as a cost-effective solution for this digital preservation project.

To overcome their slow internet connection, the team utilized the Backblaze Fireball rapid data ingest tool to transfer 40TB of digitized media efficiently. This solution ensured their entire historical archive, including performances by legendary artists, was successfully migrated to the cloud. As a result, Austin City Limits now has a safe, secure, and accessible archive, guaranteeing these unique recordings are preserved for future generations without the fear of loss.
