SSF Norway Raises the Bar on Customer Experience in the Nordics

Sparebanken Sogn og Fjordane (SSF), a 175‑year‑old Norwegian bank with NOK 52 billion in assets, faced a strategic challenge: move away from a monopolistic national core provider and gain the flexibility and control needed to reinvent its customer experience across digital channels. To achieve this, SSF selected Backbase and sought a partner that could deliver both technology and end‑to‑end guidance to build a modern, customer‑centric mobile and omni‑channel banking solution.

Backbase developed and implemented a new mobile banking application (iOS and Android) and ran the end‑to‑end deployment, introducing a more agile way of working and handing SSF direct control of its digital channels. The results were rapid and measurable: average logins rose from about 5 times per week to 2–2.5 times per day, conversion of existing customers climbed from ~75% to 96% in under a year, feature release cadence moved to daily capability, and SSF achieved lower total cost of ownership plus improved cross‑sell, analytics and customer insights — outcomes driven by Backbase’s platform and partnership.
