A Backbase Case Study

Preview of the MCB Case Study

MCB gains first-mover advantage with the release of JuicePro, an SME Banking app powered by Backbase

MCB (Mauritius Commercial Bank) faced a fragmented, largely branch-dependent experience for its SME customers — manual loan statements, cash deposits and payment workflows and no dedicated mobile app. To capture a digital first‑mover advantage and accelerate product delivery, MCB selected Backbase and its Digital‑First/omni‑channel banking platform (including Backbase Identity) to drive a customer‑first SME mobile strategy.

Working with Backbase, MCB launched JuicePro — an SME banking app with biometric security, OTP, payments, account overview and account management. Backbase’s out‑of‑the‑box widgets powered ~80% of development, enabling an MVP in 6 months and a full release in ~11–12 months; more than 1,500 SME customers have registered (1,000 in under a month), 85% of downloaders are active—signing in 14 times/month on average—and the app can onboard 24,000 potential users in four steps in under five minutes. Backbase’s platform shortened feature release cycles to 2–3 months and improved MCB’s operational and commercial effectiveness.
