Greater Bank - Customer Case Study

Greater Bank, Australia’s customer‑owned retail bank with more than 280,000 customers and roughly $7 billion in assets, faced strategic, commercial and operational pressure from an end‑of‑life core banking system and mounting compliance and competitiveness challenges. To modernize its channels and future‑proof operations, Greater Bank engaged Backbase—leveraging Backbase CSX, Widget Collection and Digital Banking Services alongside upgraded internet and mobile banking systems—to reimagine its digital front end and accelerate a broad transformation.

Beginning in 2018, Backbase helped Greater Bank implement a three‑tier, orchestrated platform and a separate transformation division to overhaul legacy core processes, customer and employee interfaces, and supporting systems. The program—targeted for completion in 2021—delivered a flexible digital front end from Backbase, improved agility and compliance, and set the bank on track to launch a revitalised digital bank within two years, enabling faster releases, easier fintech integration and a scalable platform for future growth.
