Wisconsin Public Service brings Weston Unit 4 online with Babcock & Wilcox’s 530 MW supercritical boiler

The customer, Wisconsin Public Service, required a new, high-capacity power generation unit with advanced environmental controls for its Weston plant near Wausau, Wisconsin. They partnered with vendor Babcock & Wilcox to design and construct a supercritical coal-fired boiler and a comprehensive air quality control system to meet this need.

Babcock & Wilcox provided a complete solution, including a spiral-wound supercritical boiler and a full suite of emissions control technologies such as low-NOx burners, an SCR system, and a dry scrubber. This project resulted in the successful commissioning of the 530 MW Weston Unit 4, which began commercial operation in 2008, providing Wisconsin Public Service with a flexible, reliable, and environmentally compliant source of power.
