SUEZ installs 2 x 40 m² Inconel-cladded furnace walls with Babcock & Wilcox

The customer, SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK, faced a challenge at its waste-to-energy facility where high combustion temperatures were causing extensive wear on the furnace's refractory lining and substantial slag accumulation. This negatively impacted the combustion process and led to high maintenance costs. To address this, SUEZ engaged vendor Babcock & Wilcox for new water-cooled Inconel-cladded furnace walls.

Babcock & Wilcox engineered, manufactured, and installed two large water-cooled panel walls integrated into the furnace. The solution utilized specialized Inconel welding techniques both in the workshop and on-site. The new walls allowed absorbed heat to be added directly to steam production, improving the combustion process. The project was completed on schedule, with installation finished and a successful pressure test conducted in late 2022.
