Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County processes 16 million tons with Babcock & Wilcox

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County required a solution to reduce its municipal waste volume, generate renewable energy, and maximize metal recovery. Babcock & Wilcox, in a joint venture, engineered, procured, and constructed a large refuse-derived fuel waste-to-energy facility to meet this challenge.

Babcock & Wilcox implemented a solution featuring two Stirling power boilers and state-of-the-art emissions controls. The facility processed nearly 16 million tons of waste, generated 6.9 billion kilowatts of electricity, and recovered over 727,000 tons of metals, exceeding all performance commitments and reducing landfill volume by more than 85%.
