Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County powers 55,000 homes with Babcock & Wilcox's 95 MW waste-to-energy plant

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County required a modern solution to process municipal solid waste and reduce landfill use. They engaged Babcock & Wilcox and its partner to engineer, design, and construct a new waste-to-energy power plant, the first facility of its kind built in the United States in over 20 years.

Babcock & Wilcox designed and supplied three mass burn Stirling® power boilers, a combustion grate system, and a comprehensive emissions control system. The resulting facility processes 3,000 tons of waste per day to generate up to 95 MW of electricity, powering approximately 55,000 homes. The plant, one of the cleanest in the U.S., significantly reduces landfill waste and includes a system to recover metals for recycling.
