Prairie State Generating Company deploys 2 x 800 MW supercritical boilers with Babcock & Wilcox

Prairie State Generating Company required two supercritical coal-fired boilers for its new energy campus. Babcock & Wilcox provided the solution with its spiral-wound SWUP™ supercritical boilers, which were adapted from a previous project to burn local Illinois bituminous coal instead of the originally designed fuel.

Babcock & Wilcox supplied the boilers along with Roll Wheel® pulverizers, low NOx burners, an SCR system, and advisory services for construction, startup, and commissioning. The result was the successful launch of two 800 MW units that supply electricity to eight public power utilities across nine Midwestern states.
