Midwestern U.S. Utility achieves 97% SO2 removal with Babcock & Wilcox

The Midwestern U.S. Utility, a major utility company, required a flue gas desulfurization solution for its pulverized coal-fired power plant. Babcock & Wilcox was selected to engineer, procure, and construct a wet flue gas desulfurization system to meet stringent emissions requirements.

Babcock & Wilcox implemented a wet FGD system featuring its signature tray tower design and patented inlet awning. The solution, designed to remove 97% of entering SO2 without organic acid addition, included two absorbers, limestone milling systems, and gypsum dewatering. Both commissioned units successfully met all emissions guarantees.
