Energnist saves 3 weeks every third year with Babcock & Wilcox

Energnist, a waste-to-energy plant in Esbjerg, Denmark, faced the challenge of reducing operational downtime and maintenance costs associated with its annual boiler overhaul. The plant partnered with vendor Babcock & Wilcox to explore extending the time between these major service intervals.

Babcock & Wilcox implemented a comprehensive solution that included extensive inspections, an expanded measurement program to check boiler tube thickness, and recommendations for mechanical upgrades to the plant. This allowed Energnist to successfully shift from annual to 18-month service intervals. The result is that every third year, the plant avoids a three-week overhaul entirely, saving between 2 and 2.5 million Danish kroner in preparation costs while maintaining an uptime of 98-99%.
