DONG Energy generates 28 MWe with Babcock & Wilcox multifuel CHP plant

DONG Energy, a leading energy company, required a multifuel-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant to supply electricity and direct heating to the cities of Struer and Holstebro. To meet this challenge, they selected Babcock & Wilcox Renewable and its Vølund waste-to-energy technology to design and supply the facility's core combustion systems.

Babcock & Wilcox implemented a solution featuring two waste-to-energy boilers and one dedicated biomass boiler, capable of burning a combination of waste, wood chips, straw, and natural gas. The resulting Måbjergværket plant, commissioned in 1993, achieves an impressive thermal efficiency of 61%. It delivers substantial annual outputs of 160 million kWh of electricity and 1,439,000 GJ of heat, reliably serving approximately 55,000 inhabitants.
