Detroit Edison achieves 97% SO2 removal with Babcock & Wilcox

Detroit Edison required a wet flue gas desulfurization system for its Monroe power plant to reduce emissions from its coal-fired boilers. Babcock & Wilcox was selected to provide a solution to meet this environmental compliance challenge.

Babcock & Wilcox engineered, procured, and constructed a complete wet FGD system featuring its signature tray tower design. The solution successfully met all performance guarantees, removing 97% of sulfur dioxide, and was completed on schedule for all four units. The project achieved mechanical and substantial completion as planned, demonstrating the high reliability of the B&W system.
