Assens Fjernvarme Amba reaches 80% thermal efficiency with Babcock & Wilcox

Assens Fjernvarme Amba, a co-operative district heating society in Denmark, was tasked under a national biomass agreement to convert to a biomass-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant. They contracted with Babcock & Wilcox Renewable to build a new plant using Vølund™ waste-to-energy technology to meet this challenge.

Babcock & Wilcox delivered a turnkey CHP plant in just 15 months, designed to fire a wide range of biofuels. The solution efficiently supplies nearly all the town's 5,400 inhabitants with power and heat. The plant achieves an annual output of 26-28,000 MWh of electricity and 226,000 GJ of thermal energy, with a thermal efficiency of up to 80% when including the flue gas condenser.
