Alumina Do Norte Do Brasil S.A. deploys 256 MWt steam generation with Babcock & Wilcox

The customer, Alumina Do Norte Do Brasil S.A., required a reliable and efficient steam generation solution to support its alumina production process. Babcock & Wilcox, through its licensee HPB Engenharia e Equipamentos Ltda., provided a coal-fired circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) steam generator to meet this need.

Babcock & Wilcox's solution was a 256 MWt Internal Recirculation CFB boiler designed to operate efficiently on bituminous coal. The system incorporated environmental controls, including limestone injection to reduce SO2 emissions and staged combustion to limit NOx. The design also featured a unique two-stage solids collection system for superior efficiency and lower maintenance. This project successfully entered commercial operation in 2008, providing the necessary steam for the plant's process in a safe and reliable manner.
