A B2BE Case Study
Australian Paper, a major Australian manufacturer of pulp, paper, and packaging products, required a new method to electronically submit export declarations to the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS). Their existing direct connection, which relied on an application called SEDI that was being phased out and would no longer be supported, posed a significant future risk. The company engaged B2BE, their existing EDI solutions provider, to address this challenge and find a more robust pathway for customs clearance.
B2BE implemented a solution where Australian Paper sends documents from its SAP system to B2BE via AS2. Acting as a registered agent, B2BE then lodges the export declarations with ACBPS and receives the encrypted response messages on the customer's behalf, processing them before sending them back. This approach successfully removed the unsupported SEDI application from their infrastructure. The customer reported that the solution worked very well, creating a more robust process and preventing the potential future pain of maintaining an obsolete system.
