3M cuts document re-keying with B2BE

3M in New Zealand, a company with eight diverse business divisions, sought to handle sales orders and invoices electronically to simplify its supply chain processes. The challenge involved connecting with a wide variety of clients and converting numerous document formats for its internal ERP system. To address this, 3M partnered with vendor B2BE for their electronic data interchange (EDI) connectivity solutions.

B2BE implemented a third-party messaging service that translates any file format into one readable by 3M's systems and vice versa. This solution provided web-based visibility for tracking orders and managed the complexities of 3M's multi-product, multi-channel environment. As a result, 3M significantly reduced manual data re-keying; within the first year, 20% of its invoices and purchase orders were delivered electronically via B2BE, with a goal of reaching 60%. This improvement freed up customer service staff for more valuable roles and enhanced transaction efficiency with partners.
