Westmed Improves Patient Cardiovascular Care By Using Azuqua to Automate Risk Scoring

Westmed, a healthcare provider, needed a better way to calculate and document American Heart Association cardiovascular risk scores in its EMR. Doctors were relying on manual steps and external websites to complete the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk assessment, creating a fragmented and error-prone workflow. Westmed turned to Azuqua to streamline this process.

Azuqua built a custom connector for Westmed’s EMR and a microservice containing the risk-calculation algorithm, then automated the workflow so clinicians could send patient data to the calculator and return the results back into the EMR with the click of a button. This eliminated manual scoring, saved doctors time, improved patient interaction, and made it easier for Westmed to track compliance with AHA guidelines and plan future treatment automations.
